Hello!
We thought we should just put a few words together to tell you what we are up to at the moment.
We had a committee meeting at the end of March and it has given us all lots of jobs to do. This also helped us to decide that we will have a break from our online activity for a while so we can start to plan seeing each other again.
These are some of the things we are working on....
The care leaver committee have a 'Discord' chat group. If you are a gamer, you may use Discord? It's a good way for us to check in with each other about ideas. We are currently talking about the contents of the 'Smile Boxes'. Together we are figuring out the best things to go in there to suit all genders and the committee have agreed to offer these all year.
Some of the committee are also starting to work on a project called 'choose your own adventure'. They will figure out the terms and conditions of this project and how it should work. Hopefully, we will be able to offer more care leavers, opportunities throughout the year that doesn't always involve us meeting as a group. If a care leaver wants to go and do an activity with a friend, maybe we could support that. We will let you know when this is launched.
The rest of the committee are getting their heads together to plan a summer of fun - let us know if you want to get involved with the planning of that.
We are starting our AQA awards next week - only delayed by a year, thanks Covid! The care leavers taking part will start with the award on being a committee member.
We are also really keen to see how we can support care leavers who are parents. Dorset Council are going to help us by sending this form to their care leavers and asking for some feedback. If you are a Dorset Council care leaver aged 18-25 and a parent reading this, you can fill it in now via this link ~ https://forms.office.com/r/G7gBYDv9hN .
Finally, we have one of our committee members out there trying to source some great essentials for care leavers over the summer - we'll let you know what freebies she is able to get for you.
